In El Cerrito, CA, SGA designed and engineered a 200-foot undulating canopy signature structure adjacent to the Ohlone Greenway and a system of compact and secure electronic bicycle lockers along a regional bike/ped pathway. The canopy structure was composed of flexible glazing material and a laser-cut steel three-hinged arch framing system to create a visually light and elegant linear structure that contrasts with the heavy concrete of the adjacent Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station and elevated rail structure. The high-capacity bicycle parking facility met the city’s desire for a landmark design statement, greater bike security than open racks, and on-demand locker availability instead of long-term rentals.
